Tramontina and Tablekraft Steak Knives

If you’re an establishment that prides itself on serving up the perfect steak, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got the right steak knife alongside it. There’s no point in cooking the juiciest, tastiest slice of grain fed beef only to have a poor steak knife ruin the customer’s experience. It’s vital that you have the right tools on the table.

So, what should you look for in a steak knife and what brands are known for their quality? Two names you can’t ignore are Tramontina and Tablekraft.

Tramontina

The Tramontina brand is sold in over 120 countries and is highly regarded for its strict manufacturing standards, especially of its prized steak knives. Since beginning in 1911, Tramontina has manufactured its products at home making it one of the most valued companies in Southern Brazil. The precision manufacturing of their sharp, corrosion-resistant stainless-steel blades is just one reason Tramontina has become the chosen brand for restaurants and steak houses worldwide. Their range of straight blade and serrated jumbo steak knives feature an ergonomically designed handle made from shock-resistant Polywood.

Tablekraft

Tablekraft is one of Australia’s most recognised cutlery brands and has been for over 30 years. Their steak knives are crafted from the highest quality stainless steel (18/10). As an Australian company, Tablekraft knows what Australian meat eaters want – a knife that’s comfortable to hold and slices through steak like butter. The Pistol Grip Steak Knife looks classy in any establishment and makes the ideal choice when tucking into a big steak.

Most common types of Steak Knives

The two most common types of steak knives include the straight blade and serrated blade.

Straight Blade

Straight blade steak knives are often preferred by steak enthusiasts as they don’t tear at the meat but rather create clean cuts, keeping the juices intact. Straight blades need to be sharp to be effective and therefore will need to be sharpened often between uses.

Serrated Blade

The serrated steak knife is a common feature in bistros and steak houses. As we know, everyone has a different preference of how rare or well done their steak should be. The not so humble serrated steak knife is the perfect match for any side of beef and will saw through a steak with precision every time.

How to maintain the condition of your Steak Knives

The saw-like teeth of a serrated steak knife may seem rough and rugged, but as with all kitchen equipment, a little care goes a long way. The best way to extend the life of your steak knives is to:

  • Sharpen and hone your knives regularly – more so the straight blade
  • Use a chopping board when cutting, not something that will dull the blade
  • Use a knife only for its intended purpose
  • Avoid putting knives in the dishwasher
  • Clean, dry and store your knife in a safe place after use
